A revolutionary, Foucault-reading literate with Senegalese roots, who was in Paris at the right time and landed an iconic role in Godard’s film ‘La Chinoise (which is also the subject of the film ‘The Inheritance’ at this year’s CPH:DOX). A young man in the midst of a historic moment of hope and upheaval, whose short life the artist Vincent Meessen unfolds in his elliptical new film. Instead of separating the tragedy of Diop (and Senegal), Meessen brings together the inner contradictions in a thought-provoking synthesis of past and present.
