A BIG Merry Christmas and a happy New Year go to all of our fantastic audience, awesome volunteers, indispensable partners and anyone else who makes CPH:DOX happen!
2016 was the first year since the beginning of CPH:DOX without a festival, but we have throughout the year been actively present on different platforms. Our online video platform Everyday is strongly growing in popularity and has received wide media coverage as well as participating in major cultural events such as Roskilde Festival, Demokratimødet and Copenhagen Cooking. 2016 was also the year we opened our first web shop, launched our first school programme targeted at primary and secondary students, and organised two talks about the hit series Narcos and Making a Murderer.
At the same time we have productively used the time to plan the next issue of CPH:DOX, which will take place March 16-26. And we can definitely promise you that there will be something special in store!
New festival center
The festival’s new centre in 2017 will be the unique venue Kunsthal Charlottenborg on Kongens Nytorv. The Art Centre will be redesigned in cooperation with CPH:DOX’s main sponsor, the international furniture brand Normann Copenhagen, into an international festival mansion with alternative cinema formats, debates, concerts, CPH:FORUM, CPH:MARKET and a VR:Cinema. CPH:DOX will continue to show documentaries in cinemas across the country, but Kunsthal Charlottenborg will from now on host CPH:DOX’s headquarters during the entire festival. This year DOX:ON:TOUR will come to over 35 municipalities across the country. We will reveal the cities CPH:DOX will travel to at the beginning of 2017.
Increased Industry focus
The strategic date change of CPH:DOX has also given opportunities to bring major international activities to Copenhagen for the first time. Propellor, a new film tech hub aimed at rethinking the film industry created in cooperation with Berlinale and Rotterdam International Film Festival, will hold a 2-day workshop under CPH:DOX in March. The international training organization Documentary Campus has in 2017 chosen to collaborate with CPH:DOX on the 5-day industry event CPH:CONFERENCE. 2017 is also the year when Good Pitch will hold Good Pitch Europe live event in Copenhagen, focused on documentary as a social change agent. Finally, CPH:DOX and Tribeca Film Institute founded the IF/Then competition dedicated to finding new female voices in short documentary film. Read more about the festival industry news here
Christmas gift idea: Audiovisual concerts
CPH:DOX continues its popular concert series AUDIO:VISUALS with already three concerts announced for 2017. Perhaps a last minute Christmas-gift idea? On March 19, Tindersticks will be giving two quirky and beautiful concerts at Kunsthal Charlottenborg with old and new songs. The siblings from Animal Collective Avey Tare and Abby Portner will perform this year’s opening concert on March 16, transforming Kunsthal Charlottenborg into a Mecca of spacey visuals and electronic tribal hymns. Finally, on March 18 you will be able to partake in a disco-dreamy event, when we will screen the film ‘Northern Disco Lights’ followed by a concert with the Norwegian king of disco Lindstrøm and disco DJs late into the night at Bremen.
We look forward to revealing more of CPH:DOX 2017 – and save the date of March 1 because that’s when we will reveal the entire festival programme!
