Your hair will never be the same again after seeing 'Hairy'!
Hair can mean many things. The last remnant of a prehistoric fur that once covered our entire body has today become absorbed by culture and become a part of our 'expression'! An expression which defines us and which we use to decode and place other people. In a playful and autobiographical way, Anka Schmid leads us through her own generation's changing hairstyles and tendencies, and weaves together political protest and conformism in a sprawling and wild film, which is also a panoramic review of the history of the West since the 1960s. In a fine balance between archive footage, animation and her own cinematic snapshots, we are confronted with hair's significance for our self-perception as free and modern people. Unless it ends up in our soup.
