Varda by Agnès

The French filmmaker's brand new self-portrait is a rewarding and highly charming journey through her imaginative life's opus.

Agnès Varda looks back at her life and her many films in a generous and imaginative self-portrait, which consists of monologues in front of an audience and with wonderful extracts from her entire life's opus. Three things drive the 90-year-old Varda today: inspiration, creativity and sharing. From her debut film, which was made 65 years ago (!) to last year's massive success 'Faces Places'. Few other filmmakers have cultivated imagination, freedom and community like Varda has, and we are in truly charming and thoroughly inspiring company all the time. As a feminist icon and pioneer, her films have a political undercurrent that is as topical as never before. Varda's social and political commitment is present in all her films, from 1960s Cuba and the Black Power movement via the Californian films of the 1970s, and to questions of gender equality and the right to decide over one's own body. An enriching, entertaining and thought-provoking experience that makes you want to see her many films (again). This is a good place to start.
