Mogadishu Soldier

Two African soldiers' own footage from a war zone with two million inhabitants.

In the middle of Somalia's capital Mogadishu, a city with two million inhabitants, the forces of the African Union are waging a brutal war with the radical Islamists of Al-Shabaab. 'Mogadishu Soldier' is the result of over 500 tapes, which two soldiers themselves filmed in the middle of the chaotic war zone, and provides an unseen and close perspective of what war (also) is, seen from the inside of an extremely dangerous city, which almost no media dares report from. Both when they are in combat, when they are trying to help civilians caught in the line of fire, or when they are just bored and nothing happens – which are the moments that tell us most about the nature of war.
