Algorithms meet human emotions in a stylish science fiction documentary about our new fellow citizens: robots.
In Japan, an ageing lady and her family are joined by a talking robot, and out in the Californian desert a lonely man finds happiness and a conversation partner in Harmony, a woman made of plastic, who likes books and can quote Ray Kurzweil. Humanoid robots have arrived like a new species on our old planet. In an aesthetically accomplished hybrid of science fiction and human empathy, 'Hi, AI' welcomes our new citizens. But not uncritically. For even though the hit film 'Her' has become a reality in just five years, artificial intelligence does raise questions we cannot avoid. Should robots be our servants, companions or maybe a new ruling class? The debut filmmaker Isa Willinger lets us draw our own conclusions in a film where human emotions meet algorithms. Things do not always go according to plan, but without revealing too much, there is a provisional happy ending. And it's one you will not forget so soon.
