Filmmaker and documentary participant Margie Ratliff will speak about her experiences as a co-producer and key participant of Subject, where she examines her participation in the 2018 Netflix true-crime documentary, The Staircase. Drawing on her twenty four years as a documentary participant, she will speak about giving and getting consent, control of participants' life rights, ways to implement mental health support and provide compensation, and how to facilitate open and honest communication between filmmakers and their films' participants.
