The Last Republican
Steve Pink / United States / 2024 / 90 min
A conservative Republican standing up to Trump teams up with a left-leaning filmmaker in a film about risking everything to do the right thing - and about maintaining a sense of humor in a bitter ideological battle.
Are there any decent Republicans left? Congressman Adam Kinzinger is a conservative with a good and honest heart. He can’t bear what has happened to his party under Trump, and after January 6, he demands Trump be impeached. That ends his career in a party that has succumbed to populism and chaos. But Kinzinger’s heart still beats for the deep values he grew up with in the Midwest.
In an uneven partnership with left-leaning filmmaker Steve Pink – with whom he disagrees on just about everything! – Kinzinger continues the fight to get America’s ruling party back on a decent track. They do have one thing in common: their sense of humor. And they will need it. Members of his own party ostracize him and extremists send death threats to his family, but Kinzinger is determined to stand by his ideals whatever the cost.
‘The Last Republican’ is the film to watch if you are concerned about where the most powerful country in the world is headed.
